Wills, Revocable Trusts and Joint Revocable Trusts can now include a Supplemental Needs Trust for a beneficiary who receives, or may need, needs-based public benefits. When you name the beneficiary in the interview, the document adds the trust and its trustee restrictions. It also sends that beneficiary’s share into the trust wherever the plan would otherwise give it to them outright, such as through the residue, the ultimate beneficiaries or a Children’s Pot Trust.
The Estate Plan Summary explains the trust in plain language, and the Gift List and Package Review remind you not to leave property to the beneficiary directly.
